Sudani’s trip to Syria is an opportunity to announce Baghdad’s support for Damascus.
According to al-Mayadin, Fadi al-Shammari, the political advisor of the Iraqi Prime Minister, emphasized that the visit of “Mohammed Shia al-Sudani” to Syria is an opportunity to emphasize Baghdad’s support for the security and stability of this country.
He added: The Iraqi Prime Minister’s visit to Syria was made at the invitation of Bashar al-Assad, the president of this country.
Al-Shammari said: This trip provided an opportunity to remember Iraq’s positions in support of Syria and the country’s return to the Arab League and its natural position.
He clarified: Sudani’s trip to Syria shows the support of Iraq and the country’s assistance to lift the siege of the Syrian nation and support the efforts made to create peace in the region. It is very important to expand the joint cooperation between the two countries as well as between the countries of the region with the aim of achieving stability. Stability in the region is considered the main gate of economic development.
Al-Shammari added: During this trip, common challenges between the two countries were discussed, including the issue of refugees and the lack of water resources and their negative effects on the environment. Expanding bilateral cooperation, especially in the fields of energy and industries, was another topic of this trip.
Syrian President Bashar Assad announced in a press conference with Mohammad Shia al-Sudani yesterday: Our relations with Iraq are deep-rooted. We have a long and common history with Iraq and its people stand by the side of the Syrian people in their sufferings. Iraq was the cry of the Syrian government and nation in international circles. This country was against actions against Syria. Baghdad stood by Damascus during the disaster of the earthquake and provided great help.
Bashar Assad said: We salute the Iraqi army and Hashd al-Shaabi for their fight against terrorism. The challenge of terrorism is one of the most important challenges we face in the region. We discussed the situation of the Arab world and the challenges of the region with Mohammad Shia al-Sudani. The situation in the Arab world is now in a constructive and positive phase.
