Spanish Prime Minister: NATO support for Ukraine is unshakable.
Claiming that Russia would not achieve its goals in the war with Ukraine, the Spanish prime minister said that NATO support for Kiev was unshakable.
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has claimed that Russia will not achieve its goals in a special military operation in the Donbas region.
Speaking on Monday evening marking the 40th anniversary of Spain’s membership in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), Sanchez said the military alliance’s support for Ukraine was unwavering.
“Strong support for Ukraine is the only way to ensure that the Europe and the world we have built have a definite future,” he was quoted as saying by Reuters.
NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg, who was present at the ceremony, also claimed that the “cold explosion of conflict” in Ukraine would affect the historic NATO summit.
Speaking in Madrid, Stoltenberg said the NATO conference in Spain would also address threats from the coalition’s southern wing.
“I hope the Madrid conference will give us a chance to take a step forward to meet the challenges of the South,” he said. “Instability in the south is dangerous for the whole of NATO.”
Earlier, Christopher Cowley, the US presidential nominee, said that the focus of NATO forces had shifted eastward, adding that this trend could continue for some time, depending on the outcome of the conflict in Ukraine.
NATO’s claims to support Ukraine come as Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Koleba sharply criticized the military alliance in support of Kiev in the Russian war, saying that NATO had done little for Ukraine in that war.
