Shocking rise of violent crime in six major US cities.
The American media reported that the historical quorum of violent crimes in six major US cities has been broken this year.
Violent crime is on the rise in six major US cities, surpassing the 2021 record.
Baltimore, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Washington, DC, Atlanta and New York are all on the verge of breaking the quorum, Fox News reported on Wednesday night. Their violent crimes are in 2021.
New York City saw a 25.8 percent jump in violent crime in 2022 compared to the same time in 2021, despite a slight drop in homicides.
Violent crime, commonly defined as murder, rape and robbery, has been on the rise since 2020, according to the report. Murder is one of the factors that has increased the rate of violent crime, which has increased by 30% from 2019 to 2020.
The US capital, Washington, D.C., also saw an increase in violent crime in 2022, with a 12 percent increase compared to 2021.
Los Angeles is next with 8.6 percent this year, while Philadelphia and Baltimore are up 7 percent and 6.1 percent in violent crime, respectively. Atlanta also saw a 5.5 percent increase in violent crime over the same period last year.
“The escalation of violent crime, known as ‘Ferguson-2’ or ‘Minneapolis,’ is rapid,” said Heather McDonald of the Manhattan Institute. “George Floyd’s death at the hands of the Minneapolis police, who were justly condemned, has sparked a wave of insults to the rule of law that is unprecedented in American history.”
The rise of violent crime is a politically challenging issue for the White House, and is urging President Joe Biden to use the US bailout budget to strengthen police departments.
