News sources reported the occurrence of several explosions in the city of Kharkiv in eastern Ukraine on Saturday morning. These explosions caused smoke to rise and caused other explosions to occur.
The Associated Press news agency has written that no report has been received on the number of casualties in these explosions.
The mayor of Kharkiv announced that these explosions were caused by a missile attack in the center of the city. He claimed that the explosions caused fires in medical centers and non-residential buildings in the city.
These explosions happened after Russia focused its attacks on the regions that have recently joined the country after holding a referendum. These referendums were held in four regions including Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhia.
In the Donetsk region, 99.23% supported joining Russia. The participation rate in this referendum was reported as 97.51%. In Luhansk, 98.42% voted in favor of joining Russia. In Kherson, the support rate was 87.5% and in Zaporozhye, 90.1%.
The referendum on joining Luhansk, Donetsk, Kherson and Zaporizhia regions to Russia started on Friday (September 23). These four regions together make up about 15% of the land of Ukraine.
On February 24, 2022 (5th of March 1400), after recognizing the independence of Luhansk and Donetsk republics from Ukraine, Russia sent troops to this region and announced the beginning of “special military operations in Ukraine”.
Russia has announced its goal of this action to de-Nazify Ukraine, disarm this country, resolve its security concerns and respond to Luhansk and Donetsk’s request for help, and has said that it has no intention of seizing Ukrainian lands.
Following the beginning of Russia’s conflict with Ukraine, while condemning Moscow and intensifying economic pressures, Western countries have put all-round political, financial, and weapons support for Kiev on the agenda.
