Senior American officer: NATO will collapse if the war in Ukraine does not end.
A senior American officer has warned that the North Atlantic Treaty Organization will collapse within a year if the war in Ukraine does not end soon.
“Lawrence Wilkerson”, the director of the office of former US Secretary of State Colin Powell, warned that if the war in Ukraine does not end soon, the Atlantic Treaty will collapse within the next year.
Speaking in an interview, he said: “I don’t think this issue will last long, and maybe within 12 to 15 months we will see the collapse of NATO.”
Wilkerson warned that this will happen if the war in Ukraine continues and Washington does not take steps to resolve it in the near future.
This senior American officer pointed out that the polls show that the residents of Western countries are increasingly dissatisfied with the current policies towards Ukraine.
He said that he believes that the current leaders of Europe will leave power soon and will be replaced by those who will play a role in the collapse of this military alliance.
Since Kyiv launched its counteroffensive against Russia last month, it has retaken some villages in the south and areas around the devastated eastern Ukrainian city of Bakhmut but has yet to make a significant advance on Russia’s heavily defended lines.
Kyiv says it is deliberately moving slowly to avoid high casualties in Russia’s fortified and mine-strewn defense lines and is currently focused on weakening its logistics and command. Moscow, however, says that Ukraine’s counterattacks have failed.
Dmitry Polyansky, the first deputy permanent representative of Russia to the United Nations, said on Monday evening (July 17) at the meeting of the Security Council of this organization that Ukraine has lost more than one army and almost all of its weapons since it refused to participate in the negotiations.
Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu told reporters on July 21 that since June 4 (June 14), the Ukrainian armed forces have lost more than 26,000 soldiers and more than 3,000 military hardware (types of weapons) during counterattacks.
