Senate sends $768B defense policy bill to Biden.
Plan to reduce military powers of the President Joe Biden has been dropped.
Investigations show that a plan to reduce the war powers of US President Joe Biden has been dropped from the US defense budget bill.
The US Senate on Wednesday evening approved the National Defense Authority for Fiscal Year 2022, or the US Defense Budget Bill. The $ 768 billion bill contains clauses detailing the US budget, spending, and general defense policies.
The New York Times reported that the bill increased the Pentagon’s budget by $ 24 billion more than requested, angering anti-war activists who believed that a united Democratic rule in Washington would reduce US military spending.
The US defense budget bill for fiscal year 2022 envisages significant increases in spending to counter China and strengthen Ukraine’s military, US media reported.
Analysts have also argued that the bill is in line with Biden’s foreign policy views, which seek to reduce Washington’s focus on the Middle East and move it toward confrontation with Beijing and Moscow.
Since the defense budget bill will be approved, the deputies in both the Senate and the House of Representatives will try to annex and approve their own plans on various issues.
The passage of this bill also has its own procedures. Each of the two houses, the Senate and the House of Representatives, submits and approves their own versions of the defense budget.
Following the passage of parallel bills in both houses, members of the Senate and House of Representatives will try to agree on a joint text to be sent to the President at a meeting of the Conference Committee. At this stage, some of the amendments and drafts that have been approved by each of the two parliaments may be rejected.
