Security Adviser Biden: We will impose more sanctions on Russia.
Referring to Washington’s decision to increase sanctions against Russia, the US presidential adviser said they would continue to provide military support to Ukraine.
White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan threatened Russia with more sanctions Monday evening.
“We will announce more sanctions against Russia this week,” Sullivan told a White House news conference. “We are gathering evidence that Russia has committed war crimes and genocide in Ukraine.”
“Russia failed to attack Kiev and its forces withdrew to focus on eastern and southern Ukraine,” he was quoted as saying by US media. “We are pursuing war crimes in Ukraine to see if they turn into genocide.”
“We will continue to put economic pressure on Russia,” he added. “The Russians tried to take over all of Ukraine, but they failed.”
“Our support for Ukraine includes offensive weapons, intelligence and advanced defense systems,” Sullivan told Kyiv about Washington’s daily military aid. “Ukrainian forces are defending bravely, and we will provide more military and security assistance.”
He added: “Our military assistance to Ukraine is ongoing and is affecting the conflict in its favor. “We are trying to impose a new package of sanctions on Russia in coordination with our European allies.”
Earlier, the Polish prime minister claimed that Germany was the main obstacle to tougher EU sanctions against Russia.
Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine on February 24. Russian President Vladimir Putin said the operation was aimed at “supporting people who have been bullied and genocided by the Kiev regime for eight years.”
According to him, for this purpose, it is planned to “disarm and demilitarize Ukraine” so that all war criminals responsible for “bloody crimes against civilians” in the Donbass region are brought to justice.
