Scientists prefer China over the United States.
Data released by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development shows that the United States is losing out to China in the race to attract the world’s scientific talent.
The organization, an intergovernmental organization with 38 member countries, has released new data showing that China’s strategy to recruit researchers and scientists to work at Chinese-affiliated universities has been far more successful and effective than that of the United States.
Based on this data, in 2021, the United States has lost many research scientists who have published world-renowned output in competition with other countries. At the same time, China has attracted more than 2,408 researchers and writers with global output.
This figure represents a significant turnaround from 2017, when the United States topped the list of elite countries with 4,292 scientists, while China attracted only 116 scientists.
More importantly, this organization follows the inflow and outflow of scientific researchers with published documents based on changes in organizational affiliation. Thus, under these conditions, if an author who was previously affiliated with another country publishes another article in a new country, the new country is recognized as the recipient of a new research scientist.
One of the most important things shown in this data is the high number of Chinese scientists who have returned to China, and the reason for this is the sudden change in the policies and social and economic conditions of the United States.
The center further pointed out the importance of the mentioned statistics and wrote that this is a very dangerous trend for the United States in the world because if Chinese scientists are afraid of working in the United States, it means that the United States will attract and use them. It will not benefit as much as China.
