The Saudi Foreign Minister called his country’s participation in the Iran nuclear talks an opportunity for rapprochement and partnership between Tehran and Riyadh.
In an interview with CNN today (Saturday), Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan reiterated his call for participation in the Iran nuclear talks, calling for an opportunity for talks between Saudi Arabia and Iran and the possibility of expanding relations between them. Participation read.
In the conversation, bin Farhan stressed the need for Saudi Arabia to participate in any possible negotiations on the future of the Iran nuclear deal and justified his remarks by claiming that if Iran gained a nuclear arsenal, Saudi Arabia and other members of the Cooperation Council would be more at risk. Therefore, they have the right to play a role in these consultations.
He added: “It makes sense to be part of the consultations and talks, and we hear from our European and American partners that they understand the need to address the concerns of countries in the region, and we should play a role in these consultations and negotiations.”
Saudi Arabia’s foreign minister said his country is in contact with international partners to discuss its role in the issue and how to address its concerns.
Recalling that Iran has repeatedly expressed its interest in starting talks with its neighbors on regional security, the Saudi foreign minister asked: “What is the issue of regional security if it is not a nuclear issue?”
“This is a good thing if Iran wants to talk to us, but we believe that this dialogue should take the form of consultations on the Comprehensive Joint Action Plan (on Iran’s nuclear program),” bin Farhan reiterated his call for talks on the UN Security Council. In his remarks, bin Farhan expressed hope that in these consultations, Iran would return to its full commitments in the nuclear deal and agree that Saudi Arabia’s concerns about the flaws in the structure of the Comprehensive Joint Action Plan, regional stability issues, Tehran’s ballistic missile program and Fix other issues.
