Despite the progress made in the Sanaa talks, political sources reported that the resigned Yemeni government and Saudi Arabia are blocking the opening of the Sanaa airport by stipulating the opening of the talks.
Political sources in Sanaa told Al-Akhbar that Oman diplomatic moves are still underway to reopen Sanaa Airport and lift the siege of Bandar al-Hudaidah (west) as a step towards goodwill and paving the way for more serious talks in the future.
Al-Akhbar newspaper reported today (Saturday) that despite the optimism of the past few days for the possible reopening of Sanaa Airport, the ongoing talks between the officials and the Omani delegation have not gone beyond humanitarian issues and the disputed cases related to the reopening of the airport have not been resolved until yesterday.
“There are still some differences on the table [negotiations], such as the licensing party for the flights, the destination of these flights, the passengers’ passports, as well as the condition of the aggressor coalition to inspect other airports, which the Yemeni High Political Council said last Wednesday.” “He rejected it and called for the reopening of the airport without preconditions because it is a government facility.”
According to these sources, the Yemeni Supreme Political Council has considered the Saudi side’s attempt to link air travel to the need for a transit permit as an insistence on the removal of Yemeni sovereignty.
The sources also said that this issue has been raised for civilian flights at the international airports of “Zion” and “Aden” which are under the control of the Saudi coalition and this coalition does not allow any flights without the prior consent of the planes and has stipulated that From the flight, have a list of passenger names.
Al-Akhbar also reported that an agreement had been reached on the destination of air travel from Sanaa to the capitals of six Arab countries, the most important of which are Amman and Cairo. However, the resigned Yemeni government stipulated that any flights from Arab airlines must obtain prior approval.
