Complaint against Saudi general and former adviser to Crown Prince on charges of torturing Khashkchi.
A non-governmental organization has filed a lawsuit against General Ahmad Assiri, a former deputy head of Saudi Arabia’s intelligence service and a key Riyadh security adviser, and has accused him for torturing Saudi opposition journalist Jamal Khashoggi in 2018.
“General Assiri was responsible for the physical and psychological assaults on Khashoggi before he was killed,” said William Bourdon, a lawyer for the Gulf Human Rights Center.
The complaint, filed by France, alleges that General Ahmad al-Assiri, a former spokesman for the Saudi-led military coalition and Riyadh’s key security adviser, was the mastermind behind Khashoggi’s torture plan, which ultimately led to his death.
Bourdon added: “France has a heavy-duty to detain suspected torturers if it is present in its territory and is most likely a prisoner in France.”
