Saudi Foreign Minister: We welcome any dialogue with Iran.
The Saudi foreign minister denied media claims that a security meeting between Iranian and Saudi experts was being held in Jordan.
Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan has denied a secret meeting between his country’s security experts and Iran on the sidelines of a security meeting in Jordan.
According to Russia Today, bin Farhan told a joint news conference with his Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shukri in Cairo that there was no meeting between Saudi and Iranian experts in Jordan. He also acknowledged that Jordan had recently hosted a security conference attended by several people from all over the world.
“Saudi Arabia welcomes any talks,” he said, noting that a series of direct talks are under way between Tehran and Riyadh, which have already been officially announced.
The official Jordanian news agency (Petra) claimed a few days ago that an expert-level security meeting had been held between Iranian and Saudi officials in Amman.
According to the source, the meeting was hosted by the Arab Institute for Security Research in Amman, where the two sides discussed a number of security and technical issues, and the two sides expressed their desire to expand relations and strengthen regional stability.
Meanwhile, the British News Agency on Monday, citing a senior diplomatic source in Iran, denied Petra News Agency’s claim and reported that no Iranian official had attended the alleged meeting.
