Twitter has blocked thousands of accounts belonging to Saudi Arabia’s e-bees over an attack on a US intelligence report on a critical Saudi journalist.
Twitter has blocked thousands of Saudi accounts for attacking the publication of a report on the murder of critical Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, the international group reported, quoting Saudi Lex.
The Washington Post has revealed that it has blocked thousands of fake Twitter accounts that launched a massive campaign as soon as the US report on Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman intervened in Khashoggi’s assassination.
These accounts based in Saudi Arabia used fake profile pictures to try to neutralize the result of US intelligence officials regarding Khashoggi’s murder.
These anonymous accounts tried to target several news organizations based in the United States and introduce the Saudi Crown Prince as innocent of this crime.
The tweets were part of a widespread effort by Saudi accounts working in both English and Arabic to change the public narrative about the Saudi Crown Prince’s role in the assassination of a critical Saudi journalist. Thus, the management of the Twitter site blocked thousands of Saudi accounts due to manipulation of the operating system and other violations.
The Saudi operation, which used dozens of fake accounts to target US news agency tweets, is in line with what the Saudis have done in the past on social networks.
Jones stressed that it is very easy to determine the coordinated activity of accounts on a recent report on Khashgeji’s assassination. It is translated into English-language political content in an attempt to dispel criticism of Saudi Arabia.
