Saudi Arabia to form the first national women’s golf team.
Reuters reported that Saudi Arabia’s hosting of a number of golf tournaments over the past three years has helped increase the popularity of the sport in the country, and this led one of the country’s clubs to form the first Saudi women’s golf team.
Tunisian golf coach Ghazlan Ahmed, who moved to Riyadh, has trained more than 400 Saudi women since last May, and now 56 women play regularly on the hope of playing for the national team.
“We have many Saudi women registered to play golf and we are trying to have the first Saudi women’s team in the sport in the next few years,” said Ghazlan.
Since bin Salman became Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia in 2017, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has undergone social reforms, including allowing women to play sports and driving cars, allowing concerts and ending the ban on mixed sex between men and women.
