The Saudi Information Minister announced on Wednesday evening that Saudi Arabia has been targeted by 359 ballistic missiles since the beginning of its invasion of Yemen. Majid al-Qasbi also claimed that 589 UAVs have targeted Saudi Arabia so far.
He did not mention his country’s repeated stonewalling for peace and the lifting of the siege of Yemen: “The Houthi attacks show that they oppose peace efforts, including a Saudi initiative.”
Yemeni missile and drone strikes have intensified as airstrikes intensified and the siege of Yemen deepened deep into Saudi territory, which Yemenis describe as a “deterrent” to aggression and siege of their country.
The latest move by the army and popular committees dates back to April 28, when Yemenis used 18 UAVs and eight ballistic missiles to target Aramco oil facilities and Saudi military positions.
The widespread attacks by the Yemeni army and popular committees came hours after Ansar al-Houthi leader Sayyid Abdul Malik Badruddin al-Houthi spoke on the occasion of Yemeni National Resistance Day, emphasizing the continuation of Yemeni attacks deep into Saudi territory.
Al-Houthi had said that the Yemenis were not waiting for permission to attack those who targeted them and killed thousands of them.
Mohammad al-Bakhiti, a member of the political bureau of the Yemeni Ansarullah movement, had previously said in response to the Saudi foreign minister’s alleged plan: “Until peace is achieved, we will continue to attack deep into Saudi territory.”
Last Friday, Yemeni forces used six drones to target the Aramco oil facility in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia.
Following the Yemeni missile and drone strikes on Saudi Arabia, Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan announced a plan for a ceasefire in Yemen, which Ansarullah officials said had nothing to say but only media coverage.
The attacks coincide with the seventh anniversary of the Saudi-led invasion of Yemen by the Saudi-led coalition. The government of Riyadh, together with the UAE and with the green light of the United States and Western countries, carried out comprehensive attacks on Yemen on April 26, 1994, to prevent the Ansarullah movement from coming to power.
