Sanaa mocked the Egyptian-Saudi statement.
Sanaa scoffed at the Saudi coalition’s pointless plan called the “Gulf Initiative” in all statements, saying, “What do you think about adding it to the call to prayer?”
Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman met with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on Tuesday after visiting Egypt. Following the meeting, the two sides issued a joint statement stressing that they had agreed to increase economic cooperation between the two countries.
In a part of the statement related to Yemen, the two sides stressed their support for regional and international efforts to achieve a comprehensive political solution based on the Gulf Initiative (FSA) and its implementation mechanisms, the results of the Yemeni national dialogue and Resolution 2216.
Abdul Malik al-Ajri, a member of the Yemeni National Salvation Government’s negotiating team, ridiculed the Saudi coalition’s reference to the Gulf initiative in all statements, stressing that the plan had become “meaningless”.
He added that the purpose of their repeated reference to the plan was to turn the Gulf Initiative into a sacred foundation document and to remind the Yemenis that “they are the ones who built the great Yemeni federal state for the Yemenis.”
Al-Ajri continued to mock the statement: “What is your opinion that we should make an inscription in Sarah for the Gulf Initiative plan, or it is better to add it to the call to prayer …”.
Sanaa officials have rejected a GCC initiative for talks between the warring parties in Riyadh.
