Russia’s readiness to help normalize Turkish-Armenian relations.
A Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman, while announcing his readiness to mediate between Turkey and Armenia, welcomed Ankara’s support for a Western security offer for Russia.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova on Thursday stressed Moscow’s readiness to mediate between Ankara and Yerevan.
According to the Report news agency, Zakharova told a weekly news conference that the normalization of relations between Armenia and Turkey would improve the general situation in the region and create an atmosphere of trust and good neighborliness.
“The appointment of special representatives by both sides is, in our view, a rational step towards the development of this common desire to normalize relations,” he added.
A Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman added that Moscow was ready to act as a mediator in the normalization of relations between the two countries.
In this regard, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoغlu said on Monday that the special envoys of Ankara and Yerevan would meet in Moscow soon.

According to the Tass news agency, Zakharova also welcomed Turkey’s support for Russia’s proposal to NATO and the United States to provide security guarantees to Moscow at a news conference on Thursday.
“We support the tangible contribution to strengthening Russia-NATO relations and to Russia’s recent proposals for security guarantees,” the Russian diplomat said.
“We are determined to maintain contact with our Turkish partners in order to create the necessary political and diplomatic atmosphere and to strengthen consultations on security issues in the Euro-Atlantic area,” he said.
