Russia’s nuclear arsenal has prevented the West from declaring war against Moscow.
According to Reuters, Dmitry Medvedev, the deputy of the Russian Security Council, believes that the nuclear arsenal and the rules that Moscow has established for the use of these weapons are the only reasons that have deterred the West from starting a war against Moscow.
The former Russian president also added that Moscow will continue to fight in Ukraine until the “despicable and almost fascist regime” in Kiev is finally removed and the country is completely disarmed and civilianized.
Russian President Vladimir Putin announced in an interview yesterday (Sunday) that Russia is ready to negotiate with all sides of the war, but Kiev and its Western supporters have refused to enter into negotiations.
In response to these statements, Medvedev said: Is the West ready to launch a full-scale war against us, including a nuclear war, at the hands of Kiev?
He added: The only thing that has stopped our enemies today is that they have understood that Russia is under the leadership and guidance of the principles of state policy based on nuclear deterrence. And if there is a real threat, it will act according to this policy.
Putin and other Russian officials have repeatedly stated that the country’s nuclear weapons policy stipulates that the country can use these weapons if there is a threat to Russia’s territorial integrity.
According to experts, Russia has the largest nuclear arsenal in the world with about 6,000 warheads. Putin said earlier this month that the risk of nuclear war was increasing, but he said Russia had “not lost its mind” and viewed its nuclear arsenal only as a deterrent.
