While announcing the sending of a number of supersonic fighters and missiles to Kaliningrad, the spokesman of the Russian Ministry of Defense said that conflict with Western countries is a real possibility.
The Russian Ministry of Defense announced in a statement on Thursday that it has transferred a number of its supersonic fighters and missiles to the Kaliningrad region.
According to “Independent” newspaper, “Ivan Nechaev”, the spokesman of the Russian Ministry of Defense, wrote in a statement that the transfer of these military equipment and weapons to the territory of Eastern Europe is due to the possibility of a conflict with Western countries.
The Russian military official said: “The events taking place in Ukraine show that a collective conflict with the West is a real possibility.” However, Nechaev noted: “Direct conflict with America and NATO is not in our interests.”
The Russian Ministry of Defense has also published a video of the arrival of Russian MiG-30 fighter jets to their hangars in Kaliningrad. Also, Kinjal missiles with a range of 2,000 km and 10 times the speed of sound are to be transferred to this area.
Kaliningrad province of Russia is located in the Baltic region between the countries of Lithuania and Poland. The Kremlin has repeatedly announced that it plans to deploy the Iskander missile system in Kaliningrad to counter the US and NATO missile defense systems in Eastern Europe. This area is also known as Russia’s missile fortress.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said today (Friday) that Moscow does not want the United States to become a party to the conflict in Ukraine, but Washington has yet to heed the warnings.
Stating that “the United States and NATO are escalating the situation by talking about Ukraine’s possible attack on Russian territory”, he said: “We are warning Washington against the escalation of tension against Russia from the territory of Ukraine.” The situation has become very dangerous.
