Russia: Ukraine left Iran’s request to provide evidence about drones unanswered.
The representative of Russia in the United Nations said that Ukraine has left Iran’s request to provide evidence about the use of Iranian drones in the war in Ukraine.
Russia’s representative to the United Nations, Vassily Nebenzia, once again denied the claims about the use of Iranian drones in the war in Ukraine.
“This is not the first time we hear claims about the use of Iranian drones in Ukraine,” Nebenzia said in a press conference before the start of the Security Council meeting. We fundamentally reject this.”
Vasiliy Nebenzia called these claims “baseless” and said that the purpose of making these claims is to mislead the international community. He said these claims are based on “open source” information and “vague assessments”.
“These are baseless claims and clear attempts to intentionally mislead the international community,” Vassily Nebenzia stated. “The arguments put forward by our colleagues do not stand up to any scrutiny and lack any legal and technical basis.”
This Russian official emphasized: “These hypotheses are based on some unsourced information and vague assessments. They provide jumbled images of unrecognizable drone wreckage. It seems that even they themselves are not sure about the evidence they are presenting. The issue has nothing to do with obvious facts, but the issue of presenting a political narrative.
Vassily Nebenzia went on to criticize the efforts of “a group of countries” who are trying to pressure the UN Secretariat to carry out an alleged investigation into the matter, calling it a violation of the second paragraph of Article 100 of the UN Charter.
He said: “Today we are witnessing another attempt by a group of countries you know. They are trying to provide instructions to the UN Secretariat to conduct this so-called investigation. “Such actions are an example of a clear and explicit violation of the second paragraph of Article 100 of the United Nations and are in contradiction with the warning of the President of the Security Council, which clearly specifies the mission of the Secretariat of the Council regarding the implementation of Resolution 2231.”
The Russian representative also clarified and emphasized that Security Council Resolution 2231 does not allow such investigations. This resolution was approved by the Security Council in 2015 to approve the JCPOA nuclear deal.
Nebenzia said: “I heard you asked the American representative if Resolution 2231 allows such an investigation?” No, it does not allow such a thing because the group that supports 2231 is not a group of experts. These people do not have the necessary expertise to conduct this type of research, and they do not even have the necessary equipment to do it.”
The representative of Russia in the United Nations asked the United Nations Secretariat to stick to its mission and not give in to pressure from some countries. He said: “We will see any unauthorized activities by the secretariat as a deliberate tension that weakens the implementation of Resolution 2231.”
In another part of his speech, he said that consultations were held between Ukraine and Iran regarding these claims. According to Nebenzia, when Iran asked for the second round of these negotiations, nothing was offered.
He said: “You probably know that a round of dialogue was held between Iran and Ukraine. When Iran demanded a second round of negotiations and asked Ukraine to provide its evidence, nothing was provided. This is self-explanatory.”
In the past months, in the continuation of the media-propaganda war against Iran, Western countries have accused this country of supplying drones to Russia for use in the Ukraine war. The Islamic Republic of Iran has repeatedly denied these accusations while emphasizing its resolution in the Ukraine war.
