Russia to the West: Admit your mistakes and meet Iran’s demands.
The Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman called on the Western parties present at the talks on lifting the sanctions in Vienna to admit their mistakes and meet Iran’s demands.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova called on the West to attend the talks on lifting sanctions in Vienna, instead of blaming Russia for its mistakes.
“The skepticism about Russia’s commitment to the UN Security Council is a card played by those who can not admit their mistakes,” Zakharova was quoted as saying by the official account of the Russian mission to the United Nations. “We suggest that our Western partners focus their energy on addressing Iran’s legitimate demands for a draft agreement to be revived.”
Last Friday, negotiators in Vienna announced that Vienna talks on BRICS had stalled and that negotiating delegations had returned to their capitals for consultations. EU foreign policy chief Joseph Borrell said the talks had been suspended due to “external factors”.
Borrell declined to comment on “external factors.” Iran said some new requests from the United States and some measures, such as the seizure of the Iranian tanker, had complicated the negotiations. The Western parties claimed that Russia’s request for a guarantee for relations with Iran was delayed.
However, a few days ago, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, after meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, stated that Russia had received a written guarantee from the United States that cooperation between Moscow and Tehran after The Vienna Agreement will not be subject to sanctions.
Mikhail Ulyanov, Russia’s envoy to the sanctions talks in Vienna, also tweeted Wednesday morning that the outcome of the talks does not depend on Moscow’s behavior but on the behavior of other parties, especially the United States. “I am tired of speculation about Russia’s position in the final stage of the Vienna talks.
“Honestly, the conclusion of the talks depends not on Russia but on other parties, especially the United States.”
