Russia: Despite sanctions, we send S-400 to India.
A Russian official said the S-400 missile defense system would be sent to India despite sanctions against Russia.
Russia said Wednesday that despite sanctions over the Ukraine crisis, it sees no obstacles to supplying S-400 missile systems to India.
“We do not anticipate any obstacles to the supply of the S-400 to India, we have ways to continue the deal without hindrance,” said Denis Alipov, a Russian official, according to the World Bulletin website. “Sanctions, old or new, will have no effect on this.”
India and Russia signed a $ 5.5 billion deal for the S-400 air defense system in 2018, putting New Delhi at risk of US sanctions.
The United States has long sought to dissuade countries from purchasing military equipment from Russia and has threatened them with punitive measures under the US Enforcement of Sanctions Act (CAATSA). The United States has used sanctions against Turkey, Iran, North Korea and Russia.
Despite warnings from Washington, New Delhi continued military purchases from Russia, arguing that it had a strategic relationship with Russia.
According to the source, Alipov also said that Russia is very grateful to India for its balanced approach to the United Nations, because it fully understands the depth of the Ukraine crisis.
“We are a strategic ally with India,” he said. We thank India for its position at the United Nations. “India understands the depth of this crisis.”
Meanwhile, the deputy commander of the Indian Air Force said on Wednesday that he would not be affected by US sanctions against Russia because India has strong ties with both countries. “We know the geopolitical situation is difficult at the moment, but our relationship with Russia will continue,” said Sandip Singh, deputy commander of the Indian Air Force.
Singh also announced the deployment of three planes to evacuate stray Indian citizens in Ukraine.
