Russia: America wants to turn fertile Ukraine into a graveyard.
Referring to the US decision to send cluster bombs to Ukraine, Anatoly Antonov, the Russian ambassador to America, emphasized that Washington’s intention of such a decision was not necessarily to help Ukraine.
Antonov wrote in a statement: Such a position clearly shows the true approach of America towards Ukraine. Washington wants to use the republic (Ukraine) to get rid of its old weapons and turn one of the rich and fertile parts of the Soviet Union into an uninhabitable “graveyard”.
He emphasized: American ammunition will remain in this land along with a lot of burnt German Leopard tanks and other Western weapons.
Antonov added: America, by chanting unattainable slogans about strengthening the forces and combat capability of Ukraine’s armed forces, degrades more and more in terms of basic moral principles and disrespectfully pours its deadly waste on Ukraine’s head.
America’s decision to send cluster munitions to Ukraine was announced on July 7 (July 16). However, the United Nations and a number of Washington’s close allies opposed the decision. Many members of the American Democratic Party are also against the plans of US President Joe Biden’s government in this regard. Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu has warned the US about sending this type of ammunition and emphasized that such an action will only prolong the conflict.
Jake Sullivan, the adviser of the US National Security Council, announced on Sunday this week that Washington has no plans to replace the cluster munitions in its arsenal after sending a cluster bomb to Kyiv.
