Russia: America should explain the biological activities of its military.
A Russian Foreign Ministry official said that the United States should explain its military’s biological activities around the world.
Konstantin Vorontsov, Deputy Director of the Non-Proliferation and Arms Control Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, said on Thursday that Moscow still wants Washington to explain the US military’s biological activities around the world, including near Russia’s borders.
Vorontsov heads the Russian delegation to the meeting of the Working Group on Strengthening the Biological and Toxin Weapons Convention (BTWC), which will be held in Geneva on August 7-18.
Vorontsov reminded that Russia has long expressed concern about military-biological activities carried out with the direct involvement of the US Department of Defense in laboratories outside the US territory.
Vorontsov said: “Our repeated requests from the American side to provide a comprehensive explanation of such activities have so far remained without a real response.” The annual reports of the United States (which were last presented in March 2023) lack detailed information about Washington’s plans and projects abroad.
Meanwhile, Igor Krylov, head of the chemical, radioactive, and biological defense department of the Russian Defense Ministry, said on Wednesday that the United States is preparing for a new pandemic.
He told reporters: The priority areas of this department (the department under his chairmanship) include working on the creation of vaccines and drugs to prevent viruses and their genetically modified species, as well as introducing advanced technologies in biological production.
He added: Therefore, in 2019, the United States began preparing for a new pandemic by conducting a search for viral mutations. The United States can also use so-called defensive biological technologies for offensive purposes as well as global management purposes by creating critical situations of a biological nature.
Recently, Robert Kennedy Jr., the Democratic candidate for the US presidential election, confirmed the existence of US biological laboratories in Ukraine with the aim of developing these types of weapons.
In mid-April, a Russian parliamentary commission released its final report on the investigation into the activities of US-run biological laboratories in Ukraine. According to this document, the Pentagon’s military biological program was developed on a large scale and was carried out under the guise of anti-terrorist projects and activities authorized by the Biological Weapons Convention.
This commission also announced that experts from the Pentagon are involved in the activities of all laboratories under American control; However, their work is confidential and government agencies in host countries only have access to secondary research.
“We have biological laboratories in Ukraine because we are developing biological weapons,” Kennedy said. Bioweapons use all new types of synthetic biology and CRISPR technology and genetic engineering techniques that were not available to the previous generation.
