Rumor has it that the Wagner group is involved in the Niger Coup’
At the same time as the deadline set today (Sunday) for the release of the deposed president of Niger, “Mohammed Bazoum”, and the coup plotters of this country facing the possible military intervention of the “ECOWAS ” group, the new military government of this country asked for help from the Wagner group.
Announcing this, Anatolia News Agency reported on Sunday that this request was made during the meeting between the leaders of the military coup in Niger and the neighboring country of Mali.
After the team sent by ECOWAS to Niger on Thursday to mediate was not allowed to meet with the head of the transitional council, General Abdel Rahman Chiani, the defense ministers of the ECOWAS member states on Friday finalized the possible intervention plan in Niger. They asked the military to prepare the resources needed for this action.
On Wednesday (July 4, 26), Niger’s presidential guard forces detained the country’s president, Muhammad Bazoum, inside the presidential palace, and then removed him from his position.
On Friday (July 6, 28), Niger’s coup plotters appointed General Abdurrahman Chiani as the head of the country’s transitional council.
With an area of 1.3 million square kilometers, Niger is the largest country in the West African region, and the majority of its population of 24 million people are Muslims.
Although Niger is one of the poorest countries in the world, it also has the largest uranium reserves. This country was a French colony until 1960 and declared its independence from this country this year.
