After seven years of the Saudi coalition’s invasion of Yemen, representative of Riyadh to the United Nations said in a speech that Saudi Arabia is the elder brother of all Yemenis.
“We have informed the members of the UN Security Council that the Saudi initiative for a ceasefire in Yemen will restore security and stability,” said Abdullah al-Moallem, Saudi Arabia’s representative to the United Nations, on Friday evening.
“We look forward to working with members of the UN Security Council on Yemen,” he said.
Without mentioning the six-year-old aggression and siege against Yemen, the Saudi diplomat said that the Houthis should know that the international community has reached a consensus to bring peace to Yemen.
The military invasion of Yemen enters its seventh year today (April 6, 1400). An unequal war that, according to UN officials, is the worst humanitarian catastrophe in the world today.
Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan said Monday evening that the reopening of Sanaa Airport would be limited and pressure on the port of al-Hudaidah would be eased under Riyadh’s alleged initiative.
According to reports, Saudi Arabia is seeking a ceasefire in Yemen in the initiative, provided that the National Salvation Government, of which Ansarullah is a part, agrees.
Abdullah al-Moallem continued his speech by claiming that the Ansarullah movement is complicating the humanitarian situation in Yemen.
The Saudi official continued his projections with anti-Iranian statements, claiming that Iran had a destructive role in Yemen and that Tehran’s goal was to prolong the war in Yemen.
He continued that Iran has no common border with Yemen but interferes in the internal affairs of Yemen.
Al-Moallem said in part that Saudi Arabia is the older brother of the Yemenis and that Riyadh welcomes anyone who wants to talk to Riyadh.
