Escalation of disputes; Riyadh emphasizes on Abu Dhabi’s withdrawal from Yemen’s gas facilities.
After tensions escalated between forces affiliated with the resigned Yemeni government (ally of Riyadh) and UAE forces in Yemen’s Shabwa province, informed sources said the UAE had taken time to leave a gas facility in the province.
Yemeni sources reported that after the UAE attempted to seize control of Shabwa oil and gas resources in southern Yemen and turn it into a military base, elements affiliated with the country on the one hand and forces of the Brotherhood Al-Islah party on the other (affiliated with The resigned Yemeni government, backed by Riyadh, has entered into tension.
Al-Bawaba Al-Akhbariya Al-Alamiya news website reported that the tension flared up after remarks by Shabwa (Riyadh ally) Governor Mohammed Saleh bin Adio, who called on the UAE to withdraw its forces from the Belhaf gas facility.
Yemeni media reported that after the remarks, troops were sent to the area around the Belhaf facility and checkpoints were set up on the roads connecting the area to allow the UAE forces to attack the Belhaf.
Yemeni sources told Al-Arabi Al-Jadeed today (Tuesday) that after escalating tensions between the two sides, Emirati forces met with members of the mediation committee and a Saudi delegation on Monday, and the Emirati side announced that It takes two to three months to get out of the Belhaf gas facility.
High-ranking sources in Shabwa province reported on the details of the meeting, with the Emirati and Saudis offering other options, including not supporting, training and mobilizing the forces of the Southern Transitional Council (Southern Transitional Council), not using the Belfast facilities and ports. Shabwa province to carry out hostile actions against the resigned Yemeni government, expel the so-called “Al-Nakhba al-Shabaniya” forces from the camps in the province, allow the export of liquefied natural gas through the port of Belhaf after launching the facility and entrusting the protection mission to the resigned government forces.
However, the sources said that the governor of Shabwa rejected all these options and called for the withdrawal of the Emirati forces from Balhaf as soon as possible, and Abu Dhabi also asked for time to leave.
