Following the attempt of a group of pro-Hong Kong protesters in England to attack the Chinese consulate, the tension and diplomatic dispute between the two countries increased.
London is considering imposing some diplomatic sanctions against Beijing after a Hong Kong protester was injured by Chinese diplomatic staff while trying to attack the Chinese consulate in Manchester.
According to “Sputnik” news agency, the British government is preparing to designate China as a “threat” to British interests and has threatened to prosecute former British Army pilots if they advise the Chinese Air Force.
British Foreign Minister James Cleverley called the beating of this protester on Sunday “completely unacceptable” and announced the summoning of the Chinese ambassador in London by the British Foreign Ministry. He also did not deny taking retaliatory measures in response to this incident.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China announced in a counter reaction that it has protested to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of England due to the occurrence of “evil disturbances” against its consulate.
According to Sputnik, this protester named “Bob” was one of several protesters who tried to enter the courtyard of the Chinese Consulate in Manchester during a demonstration in support of the so-called “pro-democracy” activists of Hong Kong.
Some media wrote that several people “apparently” came out of the consulate building to protest the protesters’ use of “very offensive images and slogans”.
Chinese Consul General Zheng Xiu’an said his staff were attacked by a mob that “stormed” the consulate gate. In an interview with “BBC Radio Four” on Wednesday, the British Foreign Minister said that he is waiting for the completion of the Manchester City Police investigation into the incident before deciding on his response to this incident.
