Prosecutor’s office summons; Trump reluctant to answer questions.
The New York state attorney general summoned the former US president for investigation, but he refused to answer questions from investigators.
Former US President Donald Trump was summoned to the New York State Attorney General’s office on Wednesday evening to answer questions about his family’s business activities.
In a statement, Trump said he refused to answer questions during his appearance before the New York state attorney general in a civil investigation into his family’s business dealings, citing his constitutional right to face criminal charges.
According to the Reuters news agency, he explained in this statement, which was released almost an hour after arriving at the Attorney General’s office in Manhattan: Citizenship is considered, I refused.”
The former US president didn’t leave the building until about six hours after he arrived at the New York attorney general’s office, indicating he had been under questioning for most of the day.
Trump again denied any wrongdoing and tried to portray the investigation of New York Attorney General Leticia James as part of a long-running vendetta by Democrats against him and others, including the news media.
According to Reuters, he said in his statement: I once asked if you are innocent, why do you accept the fifth amendment? Now I know the answer to this question. “You have no choice when your family, your company, and everyone in your orbit are the targets of baseless, politically motivated harassment supported by lawyers, prosecutors, and the fake news media.”
He also tried to link the New York State Attorney General’s investigation to the FBI’s search of his Mar-e-Lago mansion in Florida.
It was Tuesday morning that federal investigators, after entering the Trump mansion and searching for several hours, seized thousands of confidential documents that he brought with him when he left the White House.
