Meanwhile, the deadline for submitting documents for candidacy in the Syrian presidential election expired on Wednesday, according to the official report, the number of candidates has reached 51, including 7 women. Those who want to run in the Syrian presidential election can enter the arena if they can get the approval of 35 out of 250 members of parliament.
Analysts believe that welcoming the candidates and announcing the readiness of the candidates does not mean there is an issue, those who do not meet the necessary conditions will leave and the final number of candidates will not exceed eight.
Leading Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, Mahmoud Marie, secretary-general of the Democratic Front, secretary-general of the National Democratic Labor Committee and a member of the internal opposition delegation in Geneva is among the most important candidates to run in the election.
Seven women are among the candidates. This is not the first time that women are running in the elections.
Each member has the right to vote for only one candidate. Members vote on their nominees through the ballot box one day after receiving parliamentary nominations.
After the voting of the members of the parliament, the ballot box is taken to the Constitutional Committee to count the votes and announce the results, after which five days are given to those who have applied for candidacy.
“When the Syrian constitution was drafted in 2012 and the election law was reformed, legislators and experts are working to reduce the necessary conditions for running for president, so that more people can participate in the election without, discrimination,” said Osama Denver, a Syrian political and strategic expert.
