The world’s Catholic leader Pope Francis described the Zionist regime’s killing of children in Palestine as a sign of the regime’s intention to destroy the future; And invited both sides to calm down.
Pope Francis called on Sunday for an end to the conflict in Gaza, saying the deaths of so many innocent people in recent days, including children, were unacceptable.
“I appeal for calm, and for those responsible to end the clamor of weapons and to take the path of peace,” he said in a weekly address to faithful gathered in Saint Peter’s Square.
“Many innocent people have died, amongst them, there are also children. This is terrible. Unacceptable. Their death is a sign that (people) don’t want to build a future, but destroy it … I wonder where hatred and revenge will lead?”
As he spoke, news continued to arrive in the Vatican of the ongoing attacks and killings in Gaza, the West Bank. According to the international and local media by Saturday evening at least 145 Palestinians have been killed in the Gaza Strip, including 41 children, some of whom were in a refugee camp. Around 1,000 Palestinians have been injured in the attacks in Gaza, and 13 Palestinians have been killed and hundreds injured in the West Bank. At least 10 people in Israel have also been killed, including one child.
In addition, the 12-story building in Gaza City that housed the Associated Press, Al Jazeera, and other news media was destroyed by the Israelis, making it more difficult to report what is happening there.
“Furthermore, the crescendo of hate and violence involving various cities in Israel is a grave wound to fraternity and to the peaceful living together among the citizens, which will be difficult to heal if a dialogue is not opened immediately,” the pope said.
Meanwhile, the Palestinian resistance, which started a new wave of missile and rocket attacks against Tel Aviv, Asqalan, Sedirut, Ashdod, and other areas around Tel Aviv at noon yesterday (Saturday), continued to fire rockets at Zionist positions last night.
Resistance groups in Gaza fired large numbers of rockets and rockets at the center of occupied Palestine, including Tel Aviv, this time targeting areas as far away as Tel Aviv, and the resistance missiles even reached near Nablus and Netanya.
