Pompeo: America never takes orders from China.
The Secretary of State of the Republican government, Donald Trump, welcomed the visit of the Democratic Speaker of the House of Representatives to Taiwan and said that America does not take orders from China.
While tensions continue over the provocative visit of US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan, former US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo commented on this matter.
Mike Pompeo, who served as the head of the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and then as the Secretary of State in the Republican administration of Donald Trump, expressed his satisfaction with Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan.
This Republican politician wrote in a Twitter message: “I’m glad to see that Speaker Pelosi is following up on her trip to Taiwan. The United States has never taken orders from the Chinese Communist Party, and we will never take orders, and we will always support the independent government of Taiwan and its freedom-loving people.
Pompeo’s statement was made in the context that the plane of the President of the US House of Representatives landed in the center of the island of Taiwan on Tuesday evening (yesterday), despite strong warnings from China. Pelosi is the highest US official who has been visiting Taiwan since 1997.
In response to Pelosi’s presence in Taiwan, the Chinese Foreign Ministry announced that this action is a deliberate betrayal by the United States of the “One China” principle.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry has emphasized that the end will not be good for the Americans and that Washington is considered the biggest threat to world peace.
China considers Taiwan a province and has always opposed any contact between Taiwanese representatives and Western officials, especially high-ranking political or military officials from countries with which Beijing has diplomatic relations. Beijing has always opposed the visit of foreign officials to the island, saying that such visits violate the principle of one China and send the wrong signals to Taiwan’s separatist forces.
At the same time as the Hopima carrying US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi arrived in Taiwan, news sources reported the flight of many Chinese fighter jets to the Taiwan Strait.
The Chinese army has announced that it will conduct shooting exercises in 6 areas around Taiwan from Thursday to Sunday next week.
