The Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) said it called for the formation of a national unity government that reflects its plans, policies, and interaction with the international community.
The Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) stressed the need for continued national dialogue between all Palestinian factions and groups.
The committee issued a statement stressing that the purpose of the talks was to “implement the agreements reached on [the end of] the disputes.”
The Anatolian News Agency quoted the statement as saying that the executive committee of the Liberation Organization (PLO) called for the formation of a national unity government that “reflects its plans, policies, and interaction with the international community.”
The committee stressed that the purpose of forming this government should be to end disputes by extending its sovereignty over all government lands.
According to the committee, the formation of this government could accelerate the process of rebuilding the Gaza Strip, trigger a political process that would end the occupation, and implement UN resolutions.
In this regard, the Prime Minister of the Palestinian Authority, Mohammad Ashita, said that the Palestinian cause and cause had regained its luster and was at the forefront of global activities.
“We want to end the rift between the West Bank and Gaza [through] the Cairo dialogue,” he added.
In this regard, Yahya al-Senwar, the leader of the Hamas movement in Gaza, announced last week that serious talks would be held in Cairo in the coming days to unite the Palestinian position.
“In the coming days, there will be invitations to serious and in-depth meetings between the Palestinians in Cairo, aimed at organizing positions so that the armed resistance and the Palestinian Authority can take peaceful steps to liberate and return the displaced,” he said.
The Palestinian Authority has not taken any serious and practical stances to stop the violence or show real solidarity with Gaza since Israeli airstrikes began to hit the Strip May 10 and up until a cease-fire was reached at dawn May 21 between Hamas and Israel.
The PA has only released statements of condemnation for the Israeli attacks on Palestinians in Gaza and made phone calls with several political parties. President Mahmoud Abbas did not call any Hamas leaders.
On May 19, Abbas announced in a recorded speech before an emergency meeting of the Arab Parliament held in Cairo, “We are ready to form an internationally accepted national unity government committed to international legitimacy.” In the same speech, he said that his efforts to hold the general elections are ongoing and that they will proceed once they can be held in Jerusalem.
