In recent weeks, military exercises in the region have intensified, with Ukraine and some NATO members accusing Russia of preparing to attack Ukraine.

Russian officials have repeatedly called Ukraine’s membership in NATO a red line and warned of the serious consequences of expanding the Western military alliance to Russia’s east and borders.
