A spokesman for the US Department of Defense was quoted by Reuters as saying the security situation in Afghanistan was not moving in the right direction, adding that Washington was deeply concerned about the situation in the country.
“We will continue to support Afghan government forces, but our focus is to complete our withdrawal by the end of this month,” Kirby told a news conference.
“We are committed to withdrawing from Afghanistan and they must defend their country,” he said.
“We are concerned about the situation in Afghanistan and we are witnessing the Taliban advancing,” Kirby said. Afghan forces have the strength to confront the Taliban.
