Government of Afghanistan: Peace efforts should be made in direct consultation with us.
Reacting to the Taliban political delegation’s visit to Turkmenistan, the Afghan Foreign Ministry stressed that peace efforts should be made in direct consultation with Kabul.
The Afghan Foreign Ministry issued a statement on the Taliban political delegation’s visit to Turkmenistan, stating that peace efforts should be made in direct consultation with the Afghan government and in order to secure a ceasefire.
“While appreciating the support of its regional and international partners for the Afghan peace process, the Government of Afghanistan expects these efforts to be made in direct consultation with the Government of Afghanistan,” the statement said.
The statement added that these efforts should focus on strengthening the regional and international consensus on establishing a permanent ceasefire and ending the war in Afghanistan and severing the Taliban’s ties with regional terrorists.
“The end of the war in Afghanistan is possible only through a political solution as a result of genuine peace talks,” the statement said.
A Taliban political delegation led by Abbas Stanekzai traveled to Turkmenistan this week at the official invitation of Turkmen Foreign Ministry officials.
It is said that during this trip, border issues and the “Turghandi” and “Aqina” crossings were discussed.
