Palestinian prisoner Karim Younes was released after 40 years.
Karim Younes, the oldest Palestinian prisoner, was finally released after 40 years of captivity in the prisons of the Zionist regime.
The Ministry of Prisoners and Freed Persons of Palestine announced today (Thursday) the release of “Karim Younes” after 40 years of captivity.
According to Safa news agency, this prisoner was arrested on June 1, 1983 (11 Khordad 1362), when he was 27 years old, on charges of murdering a Zionist soldier, being a member of the Fatah movement and armed action, and until today he is considered the oldest Palestinian prisoner in the world.
He was released today in the city of “Raanana” in the occupied territories of 1948; But according to the Palestinian Prisoners and Freedmen Ministry, the Zionist regime did not allow his family and relatives to celebrate.
The Zionist regime also refused to release Karim Younes in any of the prisoner exchange operations, the last of which was in 2014. He was initially sentenced to death, then he was sentenced to life imprisonment and finally the sentence was reduced to 40 years.
Karim Younes lost his father in 2007. His mother also died a few months ago and could not see her son’s release. According to him, his mother had visited him in prison more than 700 times in all these years.
According to Palestinian sources, Karim Younes was active in all collective actions of prisoners, including hunger strike, during his entire captivity. In 2017, he went on hunger strike for 42 days.
