A number of Afghan cyberspace users wrote in strong protest against the BBC headline “Bagram, the main target of the Taliban”, which wrote that the aim of this sedition media is to create division and intensify the war in Afghanistan.
Afghan activists have called on Western media reports from their country over the past month to escalate tensions, war and undermine peace and popular resistance, and have called for the expulsion of BBC journalists for their negative role in Afghanistan.
Afghanistan’s social media activists say the report encourages the Taliban to attack Bagram as an important and strategic hub.
“Bagram, a symbol of US military power, was once the main base of Soviet forces. Now Afghan security forces are soon facing the challenge of securing the base,” the BBC said in a statement.
The source wrote that Bagram is symbolically and strategically vital and that members of the Taliban, who are advancing in different districts of the country, are looking to Bagram as a great reward.
Fahim Rahmani, an Afghan media activist, wrote: “The BBC has become the media of the Taliban, and the publication of this news shows that it is a bowl under a half bowl.”
Another Facebook user, Asif Asil, wrote: “The BBC is wrong !! Why is it directly supporting the Taliban in its publications? He has called on the Afghan government to ban the BBC and expel its journalists.
“With this headline, the BBC has encouraged the Taliban to attack Bagram as an important and strategic base,” wrote another Afghan social activist, Maryam Kohistani.
Ruhollah Qayyumi, another social media user, wrote, “Britain, as the sworn enemy of the Afghan people, is seeking to provoke war and foment discord and civil war in the country through the BBC.”
