NATO postpones the opening of an office in Japan.
After France objected to the opening of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) office, the Japanese newspaper “Nikki” announced that it had obtained information that shows that NATO has postponed the decision to open this office to the fall or another time.
Previously, NATO decided to approve the opening of this office in Tokyo, Japan, during its two-day meeting in Lithuania.
Yesterday, the “Times of Japan” newspaper announced that French President Emmanuel Macron informed the NATO Secretary General of Paris’s opposition to reopening the office of this military organization in Tokyo. According to this media, an official of the French President’s Office said in this regard: “The French President Jens Stoltenberg has informed the NATO Secretary General of his opposition to the alliance’s plan to open an office in Tokyo.”
Pointing out that NATO is a military alliance for the security of the North Atlantic region, this official said: the French side does not support the idea of opening an office of this alliance outside the region.
The official also pointed out that the Japanese side does not adhere to the Tokyo office’s idea of NATO.
It was in May of this year that it was announced that Japan’s foreign minister announced the country’s efforts to host the NATO office. Japanese Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi announced that Japan is negotiating to set up a NATO liaison office in this country.
The Japanese foreign minister had justified the military conflict between Russia and Ukraine as an excuse to expand NATO’s territory to Asia. In this regard, he said: The reason why his country has moved in this direction is that the world has become more unstable since Russia’s attack on Ukraine!
Previously, the spokesperson of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, in response to the opening of the “NATO” office in Japan, announced that the advancement of NATO in the Asia-Pacific region will undoubtedly weaken peace and stability.
