NATO is rehearsing a nuclear strike.
The NATO alliance will practice the use of American nuclear bombs in Europe in an exercise that will begin on Monday, with the participation of about 60 fighters from the air forces of 14 countries.
“North Atlantic Treaty Organization” (NATO) announced on Friday (14 October) that it will start its annual nuclear drill on Monday.
According to Reuters news agency, in this exercise, about 60 planes will practice the use of American nuclear bombs in Europe by conducting test flights over Belgium, the North Sea and England.
Bombs will not be used in these exercises, but the air forces of the coalition member countries will train with fighters capable of carrying American B61 nuclear bombs.
The NATO exercise will probably coincide with the Russian nuclear exercise. In this exercise, Moscow tests submarines, missiles and bombers capable of carrying nuclear weapons.
NATO said that the annual exercise of this alliance has nothing to do with the recent tensions from Russia. A statement posted on NATO’s website said: “This exercise, which will continue until October 30, is a routine and annual maintenance activity and is not related to any of the current developments in the world.”
“This exercise is to ensure that the alliance’s nuclear deterrent remains safe, sound and effective,” Oana Langso, a NATO spokeswoman, told Reuters.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg recently said that these exercises will be held despite international tensions. He said that canceling the drills because of the war in Ukraine would “send a very wrong message.”
Russian President Vladimir Putin said in one of his speeches a few weeks ago that Russia will use all the tools at its disposal, including nuclear weapons, to defend its territory. After that, the “Washington Post” newspaper wrote that the Americans had given secret warnings to Moscow about the possibility of Russia using nuclear weapons.
