Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kazemi met with the Pope at the Vatican.
The Iraqi Prime Minister’s Information Office reported that Mustafa al-Kadhimi met with Pope Francis at the Vatican in Rome.
Al-Kazemi praised the Pope’s historic visit to Iraq and thanked him for his warm welcome at the Vatican.
He also stressed the importance of supporting the Christian minority and other minorities as an important part of Iraqi society and said that Iraq insists on rebuilding churches destroyed by the terrorist ISIS, as well as rebuilding the historic city of Ur.
On the other hand, Pope Francis emphasized the establishment of peace in the region and the progress of its nations.

And the Prime Minister’s office stated in a statement that “Mawazine News” received a copy of it, that Al-Kazemi expressed his thanks to His Holiness the Pope for the warm welcome and reception, and praised the Pope’s historic visit to Iraq, and the messages it contained in support of the country, and emphasized the unity of humanity in aspiration for peace and coexistence and standing in the face of Extremism in all its forms.
The statement confirmed, that Al-Kazemi indicated the Iraqi government’s commitment to work to consolidate Iraqi Christians and other minorities in their lands as an essential part of the fabric of their societies and to facilitate the return of the displaced and immigrants from them to their areas of origin, as well as work to urge the Iraqi church authorities to activate their humanitarian activities, especially educational and health, and provide All the help she needs.
He added that Al-Kazemi made it clear to the Pope that the government is going to reconstruct the ancient churches that were destroyed by the terrorist gangs of ISIS, in addition to the government’s serious efforts to reconstruct the city of Ur due to its historical importance and to be prepared to receive Christian delegations to the city, and between the importance of taking measures and providing the necessary facilities to group tourist and religious groups to the ancient city of Ur.
For his part, His Holiness Pope Francis I welcomed Mr. Al-Kazemi and his accompanying delegation, stressing the importance of strengthening peace efforts in the region, in a way that achieves prosperity and stability for peoples.
Al-Kazemi also met with the Prime Minister of the Vatican State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin.
During the meeting, they discussed bilateral relations, enhancing cooperation and joint coordination to facilitate the grouping of tourist and religious groups to the historic city of Ur. His Excellency renewed the call for the Supreme Permanent Dialogue Committee between Iraq and the Vatican to hold its third meeting in Baghdad this year.
