More than 800 attacks on Muslim mosques and holy sites are recorded in Germany.
A report by a human rights group indicates an increase in insults to Muslim holy sites in Germany from 2014 to 2022.
A human rights group says more than 800 mosques in Germany have been threatened and attacked since 2014, and unfortunately the German authorities have not paid much attention to this issue.
According to Monday’s issue of the Daily Sabah newspaper, the Brand League Human Rights Center reports that between 2014 and 2022, there were about 840 attacks, vandalism and threats against mosques.
According to the report, a detailed analysis of the crimes in 2018 showed that the perpetrators of these crimes remained largely unknown, leading to further attacks on Muslim religious sites by neo-Nazis or left-wing extremists.
In a recent report, the group noted that among the 120 recorded attacks on mosques in 2018, the perpetrators were identified in only nine cases. Despite the fact that the police officers arrived at the scene very quickly and immediately started the investigation, almost none of the incidents have been resolved to date.
According to the source, leftist, right-wing extremists or neo-Nazi groups were behind the attacks. Germany has seen a rise in racism and anti-Muslim hatred in recent years, fueled by propaganda by neo-Nazi groups and the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) opposition party.
Germany, a country of more than 83 million people, has the second largest Muslim population in Western Europe after France.
The French Interior Minister recently announced that 21 mosques in the country have been closed recently. He claimed that there were signs of extremism inside 21 mosques during a recent inspection of 99 mosques. The French official said six more mosques would be closed in the coming days, in line with anti-extremism law.
The decision to close mosques is one of several decisions by the French government to close Islamic centers. Paris is doing this under the pretext of countering extremism and inciting violence and terrorism.
