According to the official Syrian news agency, Alexander Lavrentyev, Russian president Putin’s special envoy, who is visiting Syria as the head of a delegation, met with President Bashar al-Assad.
During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on the strategic relations between Syria and Russia and the fields of bilateral cooperation, emphasizing the joint attention and priority that Damascus and Moscow give to the development of this cooperation in all fields.
The meeting also discussed the latest developments in the region and Russia’s efforts to support the Syrian people against terrorism and sanctions.
Assad and Putin’s envoy discussed the latest political developments in the run-up to the Astana meetings and the meetings of the Constitutional Committee.
During the meeting, Lavrentyev briefed Assad on preparations for the Astana summit in the Kazakh capital, stressing the need to continue efforts to advance the process without any outside interference.
