Massive anti-government demonstrations in Serbia protesting mass shootings.
According to Anatoly, following the occurrence of two mass shootings in less than 48 hours in Serbia, people protested in cities across the country and demanded the resignation of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic.
Demonstrators gathered for their seventh protest rally called “Serbia against violence” in the country’s capital Belgrade, Novi Sad and Nice to express their protest against the two recent mass shootings.
The protesters demanded an end to the promotion of violence in the media, as well as the resignation of the ministers who are involved in ensuring the country’s security.
These gatherings were held shortly after the occurrence of two mass shootings in less than 48 hours. At least 17 people were killed in these shootings. During one of these shootings, a teenager opened fire at a school in Belgrade and killed eight students and a guard.
These protests were held while the Minister of Education, Branko Ruzic, submitted his resignation to the Prime Minister of Serbia, Ana Brnabic. The protesters carried posters with the slogan “Everything must stop” and also demanded the removal of the management of the Serbian state television network.
In order to moderate the protests, the Serbian government has deployed two police officers in each of the country’s 1,800 schools, and the process of voluntary delivery of weapons has also started on Monday of last week by the order of Vucic.
