The deputy commander of the military branch of the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement Marwan Issa, whose life and most of his activities are confidential, came to prominence after his recent appearance on an Al-Jazeera program.
Recently, the name of “Marwan Issa”, the deputy commander of “Muhammad al-Daif”, the commander-in-chief of Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the military branch of the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), has been in the spotlight on Al Jazeera’s “Ma Khfi Azam” program. But who is Marwan Isa and how did he reach this level in the resistance and why is he considered the pioneer of the “brain war” against the Zionist regime.
Who is Marwan Issa?
Marwan Issa, nicknamed “Abu al-Bara”, was born in 1965 in the Gaza Strip. He was imprisoned by the occupying Zionist regime for five years during the first Palestinian intifada (from 1987 to 1993) due to his organizational activities in the ranks of the Hamas movement, which he joined at a young age.
Marwan Issa was a skilled basketball player and his presence in the stadium terrified everyone. According to a report published by the Hamas-affiliated Al-Aqsa Al-Riyadi website, in addition to his basketball skills, he was a great commando and nicknamed the Palestinian Ranger. Despite Marwan Isa’s high skill in basketball; however, he was unable to continue his sports life due to repeated arrests by the Zionist regime and the Palestinian Authority, and was finally released from prison in 2000 during the Al-Aqsa Intifada.
Sources close to him say that he was polite from a young age and had a special discipline in all matters of his life, both inside and outside the sports stadiums. It is noteworthy that Marwan moved from the basketball courts to the scenes of resistance and struggle against the occupation and became the second place of the Al-Qassam Brigades. He replaced Ahmad al-Jabri, the former deputy commander of al-Qassam, who was assassinated and martyred by the Zionist regime in 2012.
Zionist terror of Palestinian Rangers
In addition to his military role in the Palestinian resistance, Issa is a member of Hamas’ political bureau and is a link between the political and military levels in Hamas. Last March, after Hamas’s internal elections in the Gaza Strip, when Hamas released pictures of those selected to join the movement, Marwan Issa was standing in the back row, away from everyone, wearing a mask.
Amir Bukhbout, a Zionist military expert, says of him that Marwan Isa always tends to cover his face, and of course, this has nothing to do with protecting himself from the Corona epidemic. The Zionist expert published a long report on the website of great Israel and wrote, Marwan Isa hated Israel from birth and joined Hamas when he was only 19 years old and today he has become one of the biggest arms of the Qassam Brigades and in addition, It is in full coordination with Hamas leader Yahya al-Senwar in Gaza.
“Issa is smart enough to turn plastic into metal,” he was quoted as saying by an Israeli security official. He is a man of action, not a word, and that is the source of his power. Marwan Isa has proved that whenever he speaks, he executes it immediately.
When the Zionist regime imprisoned Marwan Isa in the 1990s during the detention of Hamas activists, he resisted as a stubborn man.
“Marwan Issa has a strong belief in the ideology of the Al-Qassam Brigades against Israel, and for this reason, he joined it until he became its deputy, after which he became a member of the Hamas political bureau over time,” Amir Bukhbout continued.
