Macron’s rival accused of embezzlement.
The representative of the far-right party in the French presidential election and those around him were accused of embezzlement by the European Union.
French President’s Marine Le Pen’s candidate in the upcoming elections has been accused by the European Union of embezzling 620,000 euros.
According to the Guardian, the EU Anti-Corruption Bureau has accused him and a number of members of the right-wing French National Front party, including his father, of embezzlement in a 116-page report.
According to the report, Le Pen and all his party members spent the equivalent of 620,000 euros on party expenses when they joined the European Parliament. Meanwhile, Le Pen has been personally accused of embezzling 137,000 euros.
Le Pen’s use of EU public funds for personal and partisan purposes has been debated since 2018, but the release of this report, which comes a week before the second round of the French presidential election, could affect his campaign.
The lawyer for the far-right politician denied the allegations, saying, “Marine Le Pen is protesting. “He protests that he does not have access to the details of this report.”
Ahead of the run-off election, which is set to take place between incumbent President Emmanuel Macron and Le Pen on April 24, thousands of people took part in anti-fascist and anti-racist demonstrations on Saturday in dozens of cities across France, the largest in The capital was held. Macron currently holds the rotating presidency of the European Union.
The main purpose of the demonstrations was to show their opposition to Le Pen, whom leftists see as an extreme right-wing politician. However, many of Le Pen’s opponents are also unhappy with the prospect of another Macron presidency. In fact, the main slogan of the march was “neither Macron nor Le Pen”.
