Macron: America sells gas to Europe 4 times more expensive.
The French president accused the US of adopting double standards in the price of gas exported to Europe.
In a speech, the French president accused the United States of selling natural gas to European countries at four times higher prices.
According to TASS news agency, French President Emmanuel Macron criticized the US for adopting double standards in the field of selling natural gas in a press conference after the European Union Summit in Brussels, Belgium.
Macron said that America sells its gas to Europeans at a price 3 to 4 times higher than the price of gas in its domestic market.
“American gas is three to four times cheaper in the domestic market than the price they supply to Europeans,” Macron said. These are double standards.”
According to him, this issue should become a topic of discussion. Macron stated: “I plan to raise this issue during my visit to the United States in December.”
The President of France said these words while the energy crisis in this country has escalated and people started strikes and demonstrations in the past days.
“Le Monde” newspaper wrote in this context, the French government hopes that the inflammation caused by the strikes will subside before it flares up. More than two weeks have passed since the beginning of the first strikes in oil refineries, and now the French government is facing a greater risk, which is the possibility of the strikes spreading to other sectors.
According to Le Monde, there are no signs of abating at the moment, and strikes at refineries have led to calls for mass protests.
