London claims: Putin seeks to create a “Greater Russia”
In a speech accusing Moscow of spreading the word, the British Foreign Secretary claims that Putin is seeking to create a greater Russia.
In a speech, British Foreign Secretary Liz Terrace claimed that Russian President Vladimir Putin was seeking a “Greater Russia” by starting a war with neighboring countries.
“Putin’s attack on Ukraine is the beginning of Russia’s attempt to annex the former Soviet republics,” the Daily Mail quoted Terras as saying.
“We have to stop Putin because he will not be content with Ukraine alone,” he said. “He has clearly shown his ambitions, which are not limited to Ukraine, because he wants to go back in time to the mid-1990s or even earlier.”
“The Baltic states are in danger and the western Balkan countries are in danger. “Putin has spoken openly about all of them, and he wants to create a Greater Russia and return to the status quo in which Russia controlled large areas of Eastern Europe.”
“That’s why our and our allies’ resistance to Putin is so important. “Ukraine may be (attacked) by Russia next week, but what will be the next country?”
Earlier, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson claimed that Russia’s plan to invade Ukraine would lead to the largest conflict in Europe since World War II.
In another statement in Germany, Johnson claimed that the scale of the Moscow-planned offensive was almost unprecedented in the past 80 years. “The plan we are seeing is for what could be the biggest war in Europe since 1945 just in terms of size,” he told the BBC.
The Kremlin has said it is deeply concerned about the escalation of the situation in Ukraine and is closely monitoring it. The United States also claims that Russia is seeking an excuse for war after rejecting its request to cancel Ukraine’s request to join the NATO military alliance. Tensions between Ukraine and Western countries with Russia have risen sharply in recent years, especially since the annexation of the Crimean peninsula to Russia in 2014. The peninsula seceded from Ukraine and joined Russia after a referendum after the fall of Ukraine’s central government by Western-backed groups and the rise to power of pro-Russian groups in eastern Ukraine.
