Lebanese researcher: America’s presence in Syria is to pressure Damascus and Moscow.
In an interview with Fars news agency, the Lebanese researcher and writer on Turkish and West Asian affairs, while pointing out the reasons for the continued US presence in Syria, considered it to put pressure on the Syrian government and Moscow.
“Hadi Rizk”, a Lebanese researcher and author on Turkish and regional affairs, said that the United States has benefited economically from its military presence in Syria, and in addition, this military presence is used as a lever to pressure the Syrian government and Moscow and impose a kind of blockade on It uses the areas under its control through the export of oil and flour.
In an interview with Fars news agency, Dr. Hodi Rizq explained the issue of Turkey’s withdrawal from Syria and the change in the country’s policies towards Damascus and the continuation of the US military presence, which is explained below:
Considering the news about the contacts between Syria and Turkey at the security level, do you think these contacts will reach the political level? What is the truth of the news about the Turkish president’s decision to meet directly with Bashar al-Assad?
Hoda Rizk: The intelligence contacts between the two countries started a few months ago and are continuing, but the discussion is about agreements that will lead to an understanding between the two countries regarding Turkey’s presence in Syria and support for the so-called “moderate opposition” group and international and regional terrorists. It got deeper. It is unlikely that a high-level diplomatic meeting between Turkey and Syria or at the presidential and ministerial level will be held. The government of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is also trying to prepare the public opinion of this country to welcome Damascus, and informational meetings continue to create common ground between the two sides.
