Lebanese protest against Tel Aviv’s attack on Lebanese gas resources.
A number of Lebanese people protested against the protection of Lebanese national oil wealth by holding demonstrations on the border of occupied Palestine at the same time as the interim Zionist regime’s encroachment on their national resources.
A number of Lebanese people demonstrated on Saturday (yesterday) in the town of Al-Naqoura, on the border between occupied Palestine and southern Lebanon, demanding the protection of their country’s maritime wealth and the amendment of Decree No. 6433 regarding the area of the disputed area between Lebanon and the Zionist regime.
A group of Lebanese parliamentarians from the “Strong Change” faction, including “Faras Hamdan”, “Halima Qaqour” and “Malhem Khalaf”, also took part in the protest rally.
According to Al-Quds Al-Arabi newspaper, the representatives of the “Strong Change” faction demand the amendment of Decree 6433/2011, which defines the area of the disputed area between Lebanon and the Zionist regime as 860 square kilometers with border line 23, and emphasize that the border line should be 29 instead of the border line, 23 criteria have been set and this issue should be left to the United Nations in order to preserve Lebanon’s national wealth.
The lawmakers also said they would take steps to preserve Lebanon’s oil wealth in the future, and that they would engage in indirect negotiations as long as Lebanese national sovereignty is not compromised.
In early October 2020, Nabih Berri, Speaker of the Lebanese House of Representatives, announced an agreement to negotiate the demarcation of the southern Lebanese border under the auspices of the United Nations and mediated by the United States.
So far, five rounds of indirect talks between Lebanon and the Zionist regime have taken place at the United Nations (UNIFIL) headquarters in the Ras al-Naqoura area in southern Lebanon.
The fifth round of talks took place between October 14th and May 14th, 2021, and the Lebanese delegation asserted its right to maritime borders under the Maritime Law.
Last week, an Israeli ship entered the Karish gas field with the aim of extracting liquefied natural gas and crossed line 29 and entered the 5 km area of border line 23 in the disputed area with Lebanon.
